The "Real World" Breakdown: FX-120i vs. FX-123

The "Real World" Breakdown: FX-120i vs. FX-123

A&D is Launching the Fortis Series - a New Version of the FX Series

If you’ve been following the A&D line, you know the FX-120i has been the heartbeat of the precision reloading world for years. With A&D moving to the Fortis FX-123, we wanted to cut through the lab-speak and tell you exactly what this means for your reloading bench.

1. The "Engine" Hasn't Change

The most important thing to know: The speed and precision are identical. Both scales use the same C-SHS sensor technology. You still get that 1-second stabilization time that makes the AutoTrickler possible. If you’re worried about the new model being "slower" or "less sensitive" to a single kernel of powder—don't be. It’s just as fast and just as accurate (0.02gn).

2. Built-in "Check Engine" Light (ISD)

The FX-123 adds Impact Shock Detection (ISD). While we don’t expect you to be ham-fisting your scale, this is actually a nice "insurance policy" for your gear.

  • Why it matters: If you accidentally bump the scale or drop a heavy calibration weight on the platter, the scale will actually tell you if that impact was hard enough to affect the internal sensor's health. It’s a great diagnostic tool to ensure your throws remain consistent over the life of the scale.

3. No More "USB Dongle" Hassles

The old FX-120i required an expensive add-on for USB connectivity. The new FX-123 comes with USB and RS-232 built-in. For those of you running data-logging software or future-proofing your setup, this makes connecting to a PC plug-and-play.

4. Modern Display

The classic green glow of the VFD is being replaced by a high-contrast Backlit LCD. It’s crisp, easy to read in high-glare environments, and gives the unit a much more modern feel.

The Bottom Line

If you have an FX-120i, it’s still a world-class machine. But as we transition to the FX-123, you’re getting a tougher, more "connected" version of the same precision we've all come to rely on.
